    4. Packing Cubes (for a game-changing, useful travel gift)

I get it—packing cubes are probably not the most exciting gift idea for loved ones. But for travelers, packing cubes are game-changers! They help maximize space, keep clothes wrinkle-free, and make it easier to find things quickly. Cubes of various sizes are ideal for compartmentalizing, especially on longer trips. Clothing packing cubes, shoe cubes, even tech organizers and travel jewelry boxes are incredibly practical (and again, I say, life-changing!) gifts for journeys of all sizes.

    Shop Here:

    • Away Travel Shoe Cubes: These are my all-time favorite shoe cubes, but if you’re buying multiple, these are good, too, and more economical. We travel with both of these, and both work great.

    • Packing Cubes: I wasn’t sold on packing cubes until we used them to pack for three weeks in Alaska using one backpack each. Packing cubes are incredibly helpful for compression—so we can pack more in less space—and organizing, such as using one for hiking clothes and another for nicer outfits. The only thing these cubes are missing is handles, but they’re so sturdy the trade-off is worth it.

    5. Portable Coffee Maker (for a cup of joe no matter where you go)

For coffee lovers, having access to favorite brews while traveling makes for a great gift. A portable coffee maker ensures a fresh cup anywhere, whether in a hotel room or a remote campsite. The best options are compact, easy to use, and require minimal cleanup.

For the last four years, I’ve been using the Mounchain Portable Coffee Maker, which fits into any standard water bottle slot or cup holder on a backpack or in the car. It works with ground coffee or K-cups and runs on battery, eliminating the need for plugs. Unfortunately, this travel coffee maker is no longer in stock, but I’ve listed a few similar alternatives below!

Why we love it: This portable sound machine has become our go-to solution for quality sleep while bouncing between hotels, short-term rentals, and campgrounds on the road. I’m a very light sleeper, and this device effectively conceals distracting noises—like clunky AC units or refrigerator hums—that would otherwise keep me awake. I received this as a gift a couple of years ago, and now this portable device goes wherever I go!

Look for models with quiet operation and long-lasting water tanks, so they can run through the night without needing refills, creating a more restful sleep environment. A spotting scope or binoculars make fantastic gifts for wildlife watchers and photographers, offering a closer view of animals in their natural habitats without disturbing them.

Whether headed on a safari, wolf-watching in Yellowstone (Jon’s favorite!), or even birdwatching close to home, spotting scopes and/or binoculars are great gifts for anyone who enjoys seeing wildlife.

Why we love them: Wolf-watching in Yellowstone National Park is one of Jonathan’s favorite hobbies. Wolfs are especially elusive animals, often staying a quarter mile off the road or more. Binoculars and spotting scopes take wolf-watching to a completely new level, as you can see pups playing and packs hunting while keeping a respectful and safe distance away.

    32. National Park Pass (for new explorers)

An “America the Beautiful Pass” is the perfect gift for travelers who love exploring U.S. national parks and federal recreation sites, granting them access to over 2,000 destinations nationwide for an entire year.

It’s a thoughtful way to encourage more outdoor adventures, from iconic sites like the Grand Canyon to hidden gems in the National Forest system.

    33. Car Dog Seat Extender with Storage (for pets who travel, too)

A car dog seat extender with storage is a fantastic gift for travelers who bring their pets on road trips, providing extra comfort and safety by extending the seat area so pets can stretch out while staying secure. Plus, built-in storage compartments make it easy to organize pet essentials like water bowls, leashes, and toys, ensuring everything is within reach.

Here are some of our favorite gifts for pet-friendly travel:

    • Dog Car Seat Extender with Storage: Use this in the back seat, front seat area, or trunk to give your dog more room to lay down—or use it as storage!

    • The Road Tripper by SurferCatMav: Consider this neat tool to teach your cat to enjoy riding in the car.

    • Packable Dog Travel Crate: This is our #1 must-have for road-tripping with a dog. I love everything about this travel crate, as it folds down and easily fits vertically between the front and back seats in our Prius. It can also fit horizontally on the back seats when the seats are down.

    • “Do Not Pet” Dog Harness: This is our second travel must-have, particularly for shy or nervous dogs. This has helped Lincoln feel much more comfortable as we travel because it effectively deters people from walking up to her. Lincoln wears girth size 24-31", and we attach saddlebags to the harness to carry waste bags and other items when hiking.

    • Dog Travel Bowls: Portable bowls are great, easy-to-pack items for meals on the road. We use Arcadia Trail collapsable bowls, but these are similar.

    • Pet Backseat Cover for Car: This is a great backseat cover in terms of features, but Lincoln doesn’t get great traction on the recommended “up” side, so we’ll often use it upside down with the rubber grip up in order to create better traction for her to sit up and look out the window.

    • Car Window Shades: Made of stretchy mesh and an expandable rubber band to fit most small and medium Crossovers, SUVs, Sedans, and Trucks’ side back seat windows.

    34. Travel Push Pin Wood Map or Push Pin Globe (for globetrotters)

A Travel Push Pin Wood Map or Push Pin Globe makes a meaningful gift, souvenir, or decorative item for travelers, especially those who journey all around the country or world. Interactive maps or globes are a fun way to document their adventures… plus, the visual keepsake allows them to look back on their travels while daydreaming about their next trip.

    Shop Here:

    • US Push Pin Wood Travel Map: A gorgeous wooden map with 3D effects thanks to multiple layers, plus an option to add USA State Flags to push pins.

    • Push Pin Travel Globe: Track your travels around the world with this push pin globe, including a base that allows the globe to spin fully.

    35. Car Trash Can (for a useful gift they don’t want to buy themselves)

…because no one wants to buy a trash bin for themselves, but we all could use a little help in this department, amirite?!

A car trash can is one of those items everyone—especially roadtrippers or those who spend a lot of time in the car—will use but rarely buy for themselves, making it a thoughtful and practical gift for travelers.

It helps keep the car tidy by providing a designated spot for wrappers, receipts, bottles, and other on-the-go waste. This is especially useful on road trips when snacks, coffee cups, and other little bits of trash accumulate fast. Instead of tossing trash on the passenger-side floor to pick up later (looking at you, Jonathan!), travelers can keep everything neatly in one spot for easy disposal.

    Shop Here:

    • Vankor Car Trash Can: This large car trash can with an adjustable strap can be hung on a headrest, the back seat, between seats, or anywhere else in the car.

    • Car Trash Can with Lid: 3-in-1 multipurpose storage that can function as a car trash can, storage organizer, or portable cooler bag.

    36. Sleep mask with built-in headphones (for overnight flights)

A sleep mask with built-in wireless headphones makes a thoughtful gift for travelers who want to block out noise and distractions in the air… an d for passenger princesses who need their beauty sleep on the road! The mask helps create a dark, peaceful environment, while built-in wireless headphones let users listen to soothing music, podcasts, or white noise without tangled cords. This gift idea is perfect for long flights, train rides, or hotel stays, allowing travelers to rest easier wherever their journeys take them.
